Melissa A. Carroll is a Diné artist from Wheatfields, Arizona, creating contemporary mixed-media work rooted in Diné culture, nature, emotion, and personal experience. Art has been her oldest friend since childhood, shaping her voice and helping her navigate identity, mental health, and resilience.
Known for expressive portraits of Diné women, Melissa works with acrylics, gouache, oil, spray paint, and found materials to tell meaningful, emotional stories. Her achievements include first and second place awards at the 2019 Totah Festival & Indian Market, ongoing participation in Native art markets, and a year-long solo exhibition at Diné College from November 2024 to October 2025.
Melissa earned her BFA in Traditional Painting from Diné College, where she also served as Artisans Club president and interned with the Navajo Cultural Arts Program. Through her art, she aims to uplift her community, honor cultural stories, and inspire future generations.
